Wolf Fever

When I wrote Wolf Fever, the World Health Organization was saying how bad the flu epidemic was going to be that year. It wasn’t, but many were concerned. It did give me the idea for Wolf Fever, however. When a group of wolves manufacture a virus that causes wolf shifters to become stuck in their wolf forms, it’s disaster for the Silver Town wolf pack. They must find a cure before those who are working on it fall ill to the virus.

I was running a 101 temp last night, which for me is high. My temp is usually on the low side. So I was burning up and chilled at the same time. Now, there’s nothing good about it, except that I’m a writer. I use everything to my advantage.

So in the new fae story, one of the human boys living in the fae world has been bitten, and he’s running a high-grade fever. They take him to the human world to a hospital because the fae have a faster healing immune system than humans, and their healers can’t fix the issue with Bryan.

Last night, my face felt like it was on fire–burned to the crisp from being out in the sun too long. Going through this reminds me of how it feels to be shivery inside and burning up at the same time. For Bryan, they’ve put him on antibiotics. For me, I took ibuprofen and musinex/expectorant, and that helps me cough off this garbage, and I can breathe. But my fever was still giving me fits. One of the things you can do is use cool, damp cloths to help cool the feverish skin. I did this a lot in my medieval Highland stories.

But then, the hot Highlander (pun intended), had a pretty lassie to take care of him. I kept getting out of bed to cool off the hand towel, but I couldn’t sleep then. So I finally got a bottle of chilled water (37 degrees), and poured it on the hand towel, repeating every time the hand towel was hot again. I think it was the fae, really, but the one time, I spilled the bottle of water onto me, the bed, but that was okay. It was gone before I knew it was even there. It did help some.

I’m running a fever again this morning, but the battery on my thermometer went out on me, naturally. I asked my daughter if she’d pick up some chicken soup and more of the musinex/expectorant–that isn’t expired. So I need to ask her if she can get me another battery.

What has this got to do with writing? Everything! I can read about it. Or I can experience it. Reading about it is preferable, but if I have to experience it, I can write about it! So poor Bryan feels like me.

Now, it would be boring if I just left it at he was sick, the hospital took care of it, and he got better. So this morning in my feverish state, I was thinking about how I could up the stakes. And I have it! He’s no longer a human boy sick in a hospital bed. He’s a wolf shifter fae, and that’s going to take a lot of explaining. If he doesn’t get out of there pronto.

This flu/colds are going around like crazy all over. I hope you only have to experience them in my writing! And that, no matter what, you don’t turn into a wolf shifter fae.

Stay healthy!!!

Hummingbird–like a Fairy Bird

They’re like little fairies, so small, so busy, and so territorial!

In the clearest shot, I was able to rest my camera on my printer to get a more stable shot. I did it when he had his back turned to me.

The others were handheld because he could see me when I got close to the window and when I tried to move to the printer to use it as a makeshift tripod, he flew off. In the last, he was resting on the dead part of my neighbor’s tree. It was raining that day and at one point he was shaking out his feathers to get rid of the raindrops.

I finished proofing Heart of the Wolf and sent it back to the editor. The re-release will be out in January. It includes Night of the Wolf, a new novella.Heart of the Wolf

I’m now working on Billionaire Wolf Christmas again. I’m behind. *sigh* But I hadn’t expected to get the edits on Heart of the Wolf, so that put me another day behind.

If I were as fast as the hummingbird, I would whip all those words into order. But writing doesn’t work like that. 🙂

Have a super great day!!!

The Magic of Inherian: The Mage of Monrovia, Book 2

An apprentice of the mage they had destroyed earlier, now threatens Inherian once again. But when Mexia arrives at Langdon to become school trained, she learns the school will not permit a woman to attend. But she must destroy the mage’s apprentice, and she cannot do so without the training. She must use the magic she has learned to discover a way to defeat the apprentice before it is too late.

Mexia has already done much more than most school- trained mages when she and her companions had gone in search of the scepter of salvation. But now one of the apprentices of the evil wizard they had destroyed, has stolen his spell book and plans to take up where he had left off, and she has to try and stop him.

Mexia believes the only way for her to defeat the mage is to become school trained like he was with the eventual goal of becoming a high wizard–the first of her kind in Inherian. But the current headmaster denies her entrance because she’s a woman. Though if she can get the former headmaster’s recommendation, she may attend.

And that’s the beginning of the trouble.

First, there’s the wizard.
Then, the immovable headmaster.
And then, the circle of misfortunes.
It all goes downhill from there…

Gardens dwarf statue 900 020

When I saw this dwarf in the gardens, I thought of my fantasy trilogy. Which, I need to still finish. The story is: I wrote the first two, had the idea for the third, couldn’t sell the first two, this was in the dinosaur time before ebooks and indie publishing, and so I put it on hold. THEN, I sold other books to publishers and was so busy writing them, and new books, and more new series, and more and more and more, and…well, you get the idea, don’t you?

I have started on it, but I have edits on Flight to finish today, need to finish writing Bounty, and I’ve been thinking about Billionaire.

*sigh*

But right after this, it’s time to reread Flight and make sure it’s ready to turn in.

I did finally plant the flowers this morning, and dug up some of the grass. I need to keep working on that though. 🙂  And I saw a hummingbird flying around the birdseed feeders. The flowers I planted are all hummingbird flower plants and butterflies love them too.

Some days I want to just slip into a fantasy.

Enjoy your day!!! Hope that it is just as magical. 🙂

We have strong storms through Thursday of next week. I was working on bears last night, taking a break on books for a moment, have 4 bear orders, but then I did write about 500 words of the beginning of SEAL Wolf Undercover. 79,500 words left! But you gotta start somewhere! 🙂 And I got groceries!

Have a lovely day. I predict–rain, for here anyway! 🙂 ❤

Taking an Out of this World Photograph!

Oh, okay, so some would say it’s just a mistake. But to me, it’s the coolest thing ever.

And it all had to do with taking pictures of all the dogs sitting on our laps while we were playing a video game and having to say the spells out loud. I’m sure that one of the spells created the vortex.

Some would say not.

But isn’t that the joy of making up stories?

Note how serious everyone is.

Jennifer cast the spell!

a spell (360x640)

We were caught up in the spell’s vortex.

No, this was not photoshopped. It really happened just this way.

So just remember when taking a picture and a spell is being cast, beware that you might just catch the whole thing on disk.

Thankfully, we came out of it all just fine. 🙂 Puppies and humans alike.

And that’s my story…

Love is Enduring

A while ago, I saw a posting where a woman showed off her lovely roses that had dried up, no longer bright and cheerful, blushing with new color. They were aged and beautiful in their own right.

The leaves and the purple flowers have held their colors, the roses are fading into an antiqued look. These are my birthday flowers from my son–two weeks old And to me, they are as pretty as ever, in an antiqued kind of way.

My parents' gift to me copy

My parents are long gone, but like the flowers they sent to me when my daughter was born, they live on forever. My father didn’t give my mother bouquets of flowers. They didn’t last long for the money spent on them, she’d say. But these are well over two decades old and have made moves twice, and yet, they still are beautiful, a special gift I will treasure always. Love is everlasting.
